the mundane is the real

i came very close to losing my job last week. hence my desperate effort to readjust my focus.

alison, however, has finished her certifications for now and is looking for work. she is already hired at one temp agency, where she was told (unsurprisingly) that her performance on their competency exams ranked at better than about 95% of their working staff.

while perusing job listings, she forwarded me what seemed for a moment to be a dream position, and a return to a familiar life: audio lab manager. i decided against it for three reasons: first, because it would almost certainly have been a pay cut; second, because it’s not as portable a skillset as i’ve been developing for the last several years; third, and most important, because its apparent comfort is exactly something i’ve learned to be wary of, and a sure marker of a bad choice for me. there is no going back.
